At Cox Green School, every student is part of a tutor group and begins each school day with 15 minutes of dedicated tutor time.

Tutor time provides a positive and purposeful start to the day, giving students regular opportunities to develop academically, socially and personally while building strong relationships with their tutor and tutor group.

A Purposeful Start to Every Day

Our structured tutor programme includes a varied range of activities throughout the week, such as:

• House competitions
• Junior Student Leadership (JSL)
• Reading
• Wellbeing activities
• Mathematics
• Academic mentoring
• Weekly assemblies

This programme ensures that tutor time is meaningful and engaging, while also giving tutors the opportunity to review each student's Values Card, attendance, behaviour and academic progress, as well as recognise and celebrate their successes.

Developing Knowledge and Life Skills

Tutor time also supports students in developing a broader understanding of important topics that contribute to their personal development and preparation for life beyond school.

These include areas such as British Values, Protected Characteristics, First Aid and Mental Wellbeing, alongside opportunities to strengthen key academic and personal skills.

A Strong Pastoral Network

A student's tutor is an important and familiar point of contact throughout their time at Cox Green and is often the first point of contact for both students and parents or carers.

Where additional support is required, students are also supported by their Head of Year, SAFE Manager and the Senior Leadership Team link for their year group, ensuring that appropriate guidance and pastoral care are always available.
