Our Behaviour Support Team provides personalised support to students who may be experiencing challenges that affect their wellbeing, relationships or learning.

Led by our Behaviour Support Manager, Mrs Middleton, the team works closely with students, families and key members of staff to understand individual needs, maintain positive communication and help every student reach their full potential.

Support may include:

• One-to-one guidance and mentoring
• Small-group programmes focused on social skills
• Anger management and emotional literacy support
• Strategies for building positive and successful relationships
• Short-term, targeted support within the classroom
• Additional help in lessons where students may face barriers to learning

Through a supportive and tailored approach, the team helps students develop confidence, manage their emotions and engage positively with school life.

Each year group has a dedicated SAFE Manager who remains with students throughout their time at Cox Green School. This continuity enables the team to build trusted relationships with students and families while providing consistent, personalised support.

SAFE Managers support students with their emotional wellbeing, work closely with external agencies and make referrals for families who may require additional help, guidance or advice.

Led by Mrs Phelps, our Designated Safeguarding Officer, the SAFE Team brings together a wealth of knowledge and experience. Team members have professional backgrounds in areas including DASH, Early Help, the Youth Offending Team and family support.

The team can also apply to local charities and community organisations on behalf of families requiring practical assistance, including support with school uniform, access to food banks and other essential needs.

Since joining the school in 2021, I’ve had the pleasure of witnessing the tremendous growth of our Sixth Form community, along with the expansion of resources and opportunities available to our students. My primary role here is to support students in all aspects of their Sixth Form journey. Based in the Sixth Form Centre, I’m here to help with everything from navigating UCAS applications to enhancing well-being and building essential time management skills. One of the most fulfilling moments for me each year is Year 13 Results Day. It’s a true privilege to celebrate with students as they step into the next phase of their lives, whether that’s attending university, pursuing an apprenticeship, or embarking on a professional career. Our Attendance Officer plays a vital role in promoting excellent attendance and punctuality across the school. Working closely with students, parents, carers and staff, the Attendance Officer monitors attendance, follows up unexplained absences and provides support where difficulties may be affecting a student’s ability to attend school regularly.

As part of our safeguarding responsibilities, the Attendance Officer ensures that every student’s whereabouts are known during the school day. This includes contacting families when an absence has not been reported and, where contact cannot be established, arranging a home visit to confirm the student’s welfare.

The Attendance Officer also manages late arrivals, medical appointments and requests for leave during term time, ensuring that all absences are recorded accurately on the student’s school record. Families are encouraged to discuss any attendance concerns with the school at the earliest opportunity so that appropriate advice and support can be provided.

By working in partnership with families, our Attendance Officer helps students maintain good attendance, minimise disruption to their education and make the most of every learning opportunity at Cox Green School.
