Vision

Media is committed to achievement through developing an understanding of the media world through a variety of texts. Media is enjoyed by students whilst allowing them to develop confidence, creativity and resilience.

Intent

  • Develop communication skills
  • Increase cultural awareness and appreciation
  • Develop confidence, passion and independence
  • To understand media language from a variety of sources and the effect of this.
  • To speak with increasing confidence about their opinions about the texts and others they have engaged with.
  • To be able to construct a realistic production that would be appealing for an intended audience.
  • To discover and develop an appreciation of a range of media platforms
  • To understand the impact of media platforms in society.

Implementation

Our curriculum is shaped by our school vision which aims to enable all children, regardless of background, ability or additional needs, to become the best version of themselves they can possibly be.

Our focus is to develop an understanding of how various media products are created with messages in mind, this allows the students to interpret how various audiences could respond to these products. We use a structure that revisits the key theoretical frameworks of Media Language, Representation, Industries and Audiences as well as context. This would then allow the students to become more confident with multiple media platforms.

Impact

  • Terminology focus to develop robust knowledge of individual platforms.
  • Quizzes and specific starter tasks to develop knowledge and skills with the opportunity to revisit and deepen knowledge
  • Topics from KS4 are specific to the platforms given by the exam board- can be linked to KS5.
  • Students should be able to identify key conventions and the int4nded audience to understand the messages given.
  • Students should be able to write in detail confidently how representation has been constructed and how this can be interpreted.
  • Students should be able to communicate successfully their readings of the platforms.
  • Students should have a wide range of vocabulary
  • Students should have a cultural understanding of texts and how their history can change the interpretation of the platforms.
